Corporate Republic of Mars
The Corporate Republic of Mars is a confederation of Martian city states that have come together to establish a single federal government, complete with a lawmaking body of parliamentary representatives (The Body Politik), an executive body, and a federal judiciary. On January 1st, 2200, the Corporate Republic officially declared its independent sovereignty from Earth, sparking the Martian Independence War. While there are a handful of loyalist colonies that have rejected the declaration and withdrawn their representatives from the Body Politik, the government and the administration of the President continue to operate under the assumption that the Republic's jurisdiction is global, with no exceptions. The Martian Defense Forces
In the years leading up to the declaration of Martian independence, the Brennus administration and like-minded members of the body Politik established several clandestine projects aimed at building a united, federal fighting force that would defend the planet from an imminent invasion from Earth. Knowing that a move toward independence would not go unchallenged, it was deemed absolutely necessary that the future Republic be able to militarily assert itself, or it would be crushed easily.
Thus, the MDF was born behind closed doors. Soldiers were trained by government programs masquerading as private security firms. Advanced vehicles and weapon systems were designed, tested, and mass produced under the guise of civilian purpose. In fact, on the very day that independence was declared, the first of the new uniforms were still being introduced to infantry units, and vehicles were receiving last minute alterations and fresh coats of paint.
The MDF is broken down into division sized commands called Legions, with each specializing in a specific battlefield role. Examples include Infantry, Mechanized Infantry, Air Mechanized Infantry, Armored, and Marine Infantry.
The MDF itself is very small compared to most nations on Earth. In fact, with only a few hundred thousand enlisted men and officers, the MDF's manpower is roughly equivalent to that of the armed forces of Poland. However, a heavy reliance on autonomous robotic vehicles and a highly robust battlefield communications network (Synergetic System's CombatNT framework) serves as a potent force multiplier that makes the MDF a surprisingly sophisticated, highly capable (if inexperienced) military force.

The Concordat
The latter part of the 20th century saw very turbulent times on Earth. In the year 2061, the world’s greatest fears came to realization as a nuclear war broke out in the Middle East, leaving much of the Levantine region in political (and literal) ruins. Decades later, a mutated strain of a human engineered, oil-eating virus intended for use in oil-spill cleanup is surreptitiously introduced to Saudi oil fields. Before the magnitude of the calamity is assessed, more than half of the Saudi oil reserves have been broken down to esters and sugars. As a result, the global economy nearly disintegrates as unprepared industrial nations around the world scramble to establish alternative fuel sources. As debate in the U.N. grinds grinds on, it finds itself unable to cope with the rising global crisis. As a result, nation states around the globe begin to turn to their cultural and geopolitical neighbors to form alliances and mutual protection treaties. In the upheaval and scramble for energy sources, dozens of regional conflicts break out across the globe. Overburdened with charges of corruption, indecision, and political impotence in the face of widespread disaster, the institution of the United Nations, once the central forum for the civilized world, finds itself in dire straights. After years of bickering, waning confidence, and the withdrawal of several key member states, the UN is eventually dissolves.
After several years of global turmoil that followed, most of the major treaty organizations come together to establish a new international forum... this time with a global senate that has the power to write, and more importantly enforce, international law. This treaty, hosted by the Vatican and signed in 2121, establishes The Concordat, “The Agreement”. The principle signers include the GPA & European Union, Nile Council, Latin League, Central Asian Republic, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, and Siam. As decided by the treaty, the GPA would act as the principle military arm of the new global senate, with other member states contributing material and logistical support.
The GPA
In the years that followed the dissolution of the United Nations, NATO found itself unexpectedly thrust into the role of an international police force, frequently beseeched to intervene in low intensity conflicts that have embroiled dozens of friendly states and trading partners around the world. In light of the new political landscape, the key member states of NATO find their military doctrine slowly evolving to the specialized task of fighting unconventional, low-intensity wars on foreign soil, quite often at the behest of other treaty organizations without the military means to do so effectively.
In twenty 2079, after several years of political tumult, NATO membership continued to expand. With the inclusion of both Japan and Australia, the organization voted to reorganize and rename itself. NATO and its new allies become the Global Peace Authority.
